Our Annual Recital


Creative Dance Theatre is proud to announce its 52nd Annual Recital titled “Let’s Go to the Movies”.  Our teachers are busy planning costumes, music, and choreography.  This promises to be a very special event!

Each class will have a dance within this theme, and each dancer is encouraged to perform.  Choreography is taught to the students in a positive, non-competitive manner.  Our recital gives students the opportunity to take part in a big production. The experience of learning a dance and then performing it with their classmates is both rewarding and memorable!

We will divide our studio’s classes into two recitals, both to be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010. (Note: this is the new and confirmed recital date - changed from tentative date listed on our Fall newsletter!)  The curtain times will be 3:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m.  Classes will perform in one or the other of the two recitals with the exception of some of our older and/or more advanced classes who will perform in both.  Students will be notified at a later date as to which recital their class will be performing in.  Please take into consideration that if you have more than one child participating or if your child is in more than one class, there is a possibility that they may not be in the same show.  All performers will be required to attend two MANDATORY rehearsals:
June 17, 2010 Rehearsal, AND June 18, 2010 Dress Rehearsal.  Exact times TBA but the rehearsals will be between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.  Both rehearsals and recitals will be held at Clairemont High School auditorium.  Please check your calendars to make sure that you can commit to all three of the above dates before responding.  Permission slips are due ASAP.  Your quick response is necessary for costume and choreography plans.  If we do not receive your permission slip by February 27, 2010, we will assume that your child is not participating and we will not order a costume for him/her.  You may turn in your permission slip before submitting your costume payment.


There is a Costume Fee of $50.00 per dancer/dance for children-sized costumes and $55.00 per dancer/dance for adult-sized costumes.  (If you pay $50.00 and your child measures in an adult size, we will bill you the additional $5.00.)  This fee covers the full costume (no shoes), tax, and shipping.  The costumes are yours to keep, but we ask that dancers not wear them until after the Recital.  Please keep in mind that our staff puts a lot of effort into ordering appropriate, attractive, good-quality costumes.  We appreciate your costume support and enthusiasm! 
Note: Members of the performing groups TOPs and Jr. TOPs
will receive separate costume information. 

The Costume Fee is due on or before March 6, 2010.


There is a Recital Fee of $50.00 per family (not per dancer).  This fee covers the cost of auditorium rental, programs, light and sound technicians, and many other recital expenses.  Our recitals are not for profit.  Each family will receive five complimentary tickets that will be distributed at rehearsals.  (Families with performers in both recitals may divide their five tickets between the two shows as they wish.)  Performing dancers do not need a ticket.  Extra tickets will be available for sale at rehearsals and at the door for $6.00 each.  The Recital Fee is due on or before April 10, 2010.


Each year we have Tom Dochstader Photography come to our studio to take group and individual recital pictures.  Order forms will be sent home with your dancer a week in advance.  Picture week will be Tuesday, June 1 - Monday, June 7, 2010 during regular class days/times.  Please send your child to class that week in full costume – even if you are not ordering pictures.  Photographs will be mailed directly to your home in early July.  Creative Dance Theatre does not make a profit from picture sales.


  • By the beginning of March our enrollment will be closed until summer.  Thanks to all of you who have referred your friends to us.  We are thankful for such wonderful students and couldn’t have hand-picked a nicer bunch!
  • Our studio will be open on both Presidents’ Days Friday Feb. 12 and Monday Feb. 15, 2010.  We will be closed for Spring Break March 29-April 3, 2010, and we will be closed for Memorial Day May 31, 2010.  Your monthly tuition remains the same.
  • Our ten-month program ends June 26, 2010.  Our six-week summer session will be July 12 - August 21, 2010.  Summer schedules will be distributed later in the spring.  All students must re-enroll.
  • Consistent attendance is very important in order for students to rehearse their recital dance.  Please make sure your dancer attends class regularly, except when ill.  If a student misses two or more classes in a row, the teacher will make the final decision as to whether or not the dancer will perform in the Recital.
  • When observing classes please be considerate of students and teachers.  A calm surrounding helps the students to focus and achieve the most out of their class.  Please be considerate of our neighboring businesses when outside of the studio.
